Profit, Margin & Pricing Calculators

Six calculators and ten guides for setting prices, measuring profit, and protecting margin. Whether you're pricing a new product, reviewing margins after a cost increase, or trying to understand why ecommerce profit always disappoints, this hub has the tool and the explainer.

Profit is the single most-watched number in small business — and the most misunderstood. Gross profit, operating profit, and net profit are three different numbers, each answering a different question. Margin and markup are not the same percentage. Cost-plus and value-based pricing produce wildly different prices for the same product.

Start with the calculator that matches the decision you're making. If you're pricing a new product, use the Pricing Calculator. If you want to understand whether your existing margin is healthy, use the Profit Margin Calculator. If you're an ecommerce seller wondering where your money went, use the Ecommerce Profit Calculator — Amazon FBA fees alone can take 30–40% of the selling price before you've paid for shipping or ads.

Then pair the result with the article that explains what to do next. Each guide cross-links back to the relevant calculator so you can act on what you've read.

Profit & Pricing — frequently asked questions

Which calculator should I use first?
Pick the one matching the decision you're making right now. Pricing a new product → Pricing Calculator. Checking whether your current margin is healthy → Profit Margin Calculator. Selling on Amazon, Etsy, or eBay → Ecommerce Profit Calculator. Setting a sale price → Discount Calculator.
What's the difference between profit margin and markup?
Markup is a percentage of cost; margin is a percentage of selling price. A 50% markup on a $40 cost gives a $60 selling price — but the margin on that sale is only 33%. Same dollar profit, two different percentage numbers.
What's a healthy profit margin?
Net margin benchmarks vary by industry: 2–5% for retail, 5–10% for manufacturing, 15–25% for consulting, 20–30% for SaaS. A net margin above 10% is generally considered healthy for most small businesses; below 5% is vulnerable.
How do region toggles work on these calculators?
Each calculator has a USA / UK / SA toggle that switches the currency symbol and pre-fills the region-appropriate tax rate. Your selection is remembered in your browser for next time — nothing is sent to us.
