Methodology

Discount & Sale Price Calculator โ€” Methodology

Discounted price = Original Price ร— (1 โˆ’ Discount Percentage รท 100). A 25% discount on a $100 item gives a $75 sale price and $25 saving. Reverse: Discount % = ((Original โˆ’ Sale Price) รท Original) ร— 100. Most retail discounts run 10โ€“40%; bigger discounts can erode brand value.

What this calculator computes

  • Forward mode: discounted price from original price + discount %
  • Reverse mode: implied % from original and sale price
  • Bulk savings table at 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 units
  • Region-aware currency

Step-by-step calculation

Calculate discounted price, savings amount, percentage off, and total bulk savings for any discount scenario.

  1. Choose forward or reverse mode

Forward: original price plus discount % โ†’ discounted price. Reverse: original plus discounted price โ†’ implied %.

  2. Enter the original price

The standard or list price before discount.

  3. Enter discount % (forward) or sale price (reverse)

Forward mode takes a percentage. Reverse mode takes the discounted price and calculates the implied discount.

  4. Optionally enter quantity

Adds a bulk-savings table for typical order sizes.

  5. Read sale price, savings, and bulk totals

The calculator shows the discounted price, savings per unit, and total savings at typical quantities.

Assumptions and overrides

Simple discount math. Bulk savings table assumes constant per-unit discount across quantities โ€” doesn't model tiered or wholesale discount structures.

Every region default on the calculator is editable. If your effective rate, fee, or threshold differs from the headline figure shown, type your own number into the field โ€” the calculator recomputes instantly without leaving this page.

Review cadence and corrections

This methodology and the underlying rate defaults are reviewed at least annually, and immediately following any change to the headline rate from IRS, HMRC, or SARS. Every substantive update is recorded on the public changelog. Spotted an error? See the corrections policy for how to report it.
